What might determine the election is the Aurora, Colorado, apartment complex story.
Caught on a security camera was shocking and frightening video of armed men outside of an apartment home forcing entry. Subsequently, both the Right, and the Left, have used the viral tape to make their case.
It you’ve not heard about it, here’s a brief clip: https://midmichigannow.com/news/nation-world/shocking-video-shows-men-linked-to-venezuelan-gang-infiltrating-colorado-apartment-complex-armed-men-seen-entering-apartment-complex-in-aurora-tren-de-aragua-sanctuary-policies
I think The Story, or narrative, could determine the outcome of the 2024 POTUS election. Let’s get into it.
The Right’s story
was seized upon by Donald Trump immediately in one of his frequent campaign events. As is his style, he embellished. However, as is usually the case with him–the larger point is true.
The Right’s story is that illegal migrants of a Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, have taken over an apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado. Moreover, are terrorizing the community and that this is the consequence of the Biden/Harris administration’s immigration policy.
The Left’s story
is that the Right’s story is a lie. Everything is fine in Aurora and it’s a great place to live. Trump’s a liar, a criminal and convicted felon just trying to distract voters because he’s losing.
Their story is that the complex is owned by out-of-state “slum landlords” who are exploiting the residents. The residents are resisting and rebelling against unfair and unjust treatment. Just as the Trump Organization has always done, going back to Donald’s father, Fred Trump.
My analysis
and why I think this could determine the election – but won’t.
It is true that four members of the Venezuelan gang have been arrested and charged with murder. Additionally, that they are here illegally and were known to ICE and DHS.
I think that the property owners likely hired the gang to collect payment from delinquent renters. Just like has been done in some cities since forever. (Think Mafia, The Sopranos. Additionally, see the series Hell on Wheels, for a look at how things were done in the American west in the 1860’s.)
Trump has often told the story of how he would go with his father to collect rents (his father has been called a “slum landlord”); and Fred would tell him to stand to the side of the door when knocking. Because the occupant would sometimes shoot through the door. True?
Regardless, I think that is partly the reason Donald decided to build only “luxury apartments” and hotels.
I live in a “luxury” apartment complex not far from Aurora.
It goes down a little differently here.
How it’s supposed to happen
when residents can’t make their rent is this. You have sixty days and then the police are called and you’re evicted. Meaning, the police watch while staff bag up your stuff, furniture, everything, and place it on the street. I’ve seen it here. One time, SWAT, was called because the evicted resident stabbed an officer.
Rent has gone up 250% since I moved here in 2010. Since 2021, everything, has gone up 30-50%. Things are bad. Just yesterday I saw police handcuffing a person (homeless) outside a commercial complex for, whatever.
Root causes
are what needs to be addressed. However, they’ve never been and won’t be now. Those causes are:
- joblessness
- homelessness
- addiction
- mental illness
- personality disorders
Of course, illegal immigration just adds to these problems. In other words, cheap labor. Additionally, the sexual revolution, feminism, racism, and sexism. Also, greed and avarice. Globalization. Not to mention human nature, and so on and so forth.
The Debate
upcoming on Tuesday, 10 September, would be the perfect time and place to get at these root problems. Moreover, to find out just which candidate has the best grip on why the country is in such a mess and how to make improvements. To move toward sanity.
This won’t happen however, because immense amounts of income is generated for a large segment of the population (20%) with the status quo. In other words, the powers that be are doing just fine and like things the way they are. That 20% can make rent, eat, travel … go fishing. Whatever.
We, you and me, are replaceable.
In conclusion.
What’d ya think of that game last night? The opening of the NFL season. That was something. Did you bet? win? lose?
Fall Frenzy is just around the corner. How about Caitlin Clark? And Taylor Swift! She’s looking great!
