Beginnings.

I began playing baseball when I was six. In a league that was pre Little League, which was for the ages of 8-10. We (my family) was located in/on Burtonwood, AFB, somewhere in southern England. It was 1957, I think. I still have the uniform hanging in my closet. It’s pictured here:

Where do our phantasies come from? I loved baseball from almost my beginning of consciousness.

To look at the uni now I think, I couldn’t have been that small. However, it looks like I’m about three feet tall. I also have my next year’s uni. And played for a team called the Bobcats, number 18. I was the catcher. Somewhere, my brother has a slide of me in action. I’ve seen it, sometime ago.

Out our front door was a large, mowed, green field. We (us base kids) would play pick-up games there whenever time and weather allowed.

There is no doubt that’s where my love of baseball, and competition, began.
