Frowning Mountain

“Do you have a theory as to why he’s frowning?” I asked her. She said, “He looks like he’s more pondering than frowning.” [What do you see?]

Somewhere in Roosevelt National Forest, July 1, 2006, there was this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nF19l8BWLFI

So that was twenty years ago this July. Through the years, going back over fifty, I’ve had the pleasure and wonder to see some of these rock formations. And yes, they always appear as men. Frowning, pondering, crying? and in one case screaming. Take a look:

The four men

are, from the top:

  • “Frowning” (2006) somewhere in Roosevelt National forest, Colorado.. Coincidently (?) near where I got married in 1972.
  • Serious [(2007) Profile rock]) Poudre River Canyon, Colorado.
  • Stoic [(1971) Old Man] Franconia, New Hampshire.
  • Screaming (2013) The Wild Basin, RMNP, Colorado.

Then and Now and When

Then and now and when you see these formations matter. For example; Stoic, “Old Man”, man in New Hampshire has now lost his face. . That was back in 2003. However, the site is now a big tourist attraction with all manner of built out access and hype. Which I find crazy. When I was there there was nothing, except the profile. And a lot of snow.

“Screaming” man was something I saw at a particular time. Moreover, I’ve never seen in any of 100’s of pictures or video’s of the same spot since. It was at Ouzel Falls.

In Conclusion

I can’t–come to a conclusion. It’s a mystery to me–the Now, Then, and When of things. Why are none of them laughing? Why no women? Why do men destroy mountains and then remake them in their own image? Build monuments to themselves? When, it seems to me, something other than WE have done so before– we were even here? Why can’t we just look and watch and wonder? What is going on?

Here in Loveland, Colorado, arguably the sculpture capital of the world, and gateway to RMNP, why are there so many statues of naked women?

Additionally, Buddhas. And flag poles! What in the world is happening? What am I doing here, now?
